SMILE

Pencil on Paper

This piece is about happiness. Some things that make me happy are drawing, painting, and listening to music. I decided to draw a person smiling because I thought that was the perfect representation of happiness. Portraiture is one of my favorite types of art. I decided to use pencil because I don’t usually use this medium and it was definitely outside of my comfort zone. My style for drawing faces is inspired by manga, which is why I made the eyes slightly bigger than the average eye.

SWEET SUCCULENT

Acrylic Paint on Canvas

This piece is about gardening as a form of stress relief. I personally like to grow plants and it is a really relaxing activity for me. During quarantine, I grew zinnias and aloe in my backyard. I intentionally cropped the person’s head in the painting so that the main focus would be the succulent. I decided to paint some basil in the background because it is one of my favorite spices. I used bright, vibrant colors to create a happy and peaceful atmosphere.
