BREE’S PATCHWORK QUILT OF JOY
Markers on Paper
A concept that we explored in the Art Therapy workshop was emotional expression. One emotion that I wanted to express in my artwork was happiness since I have many things that make me feel happy. One way I knew how to express happiness was through designing a quilt. I don’t know how to sew, so a created a sketch/design of a small quilt with different patches of my
favorite things. One thing I like to do is to discover new patterns and draw my own, so in some patches, I sketched different patterns (argyle, dots, checkerboard, paisley) and colored them. I also added piano keys to show how I like listening to different eras of classical music, and I added my favorite foods.
MANDALA OF GOOD LUCK
Markers on Paper
During the workshop, there were various stress-relieving activities that I completed. One of them was Mandala coloring. I really enjoyed this activity, as I have drawn and colored mandalas before as a form of leisure. This inspired me to make my own mandala and add different symbols that were special to me. For this Mandala, I wanted to focus on a specific theme: good luck and fortune. So I drew symbols that were associated with luck, like the ladybugs (one of my favorite insects), 4-leaf clovers, horseshoes, and flowers. I wanted to incorporate a specific color scheme to create unity throughout the piece; I used mostly shades of pink, red, orange, and greens. The red ladybugs in the green part make them stand out more.
